Akira  MIZUTANI

Akira Mizutani debuted in 1992 as a singer/songwriter after playing with musicians such as Masato Tomobe and Yukihiro Takahashi. While writing for commercials and TV series, he founded the Baritone Saxophone ensemble “Tokyo Chutei Iki”, which has since grown into a band infamous among Baritone Saxophone players around the world, and since 2014, has been the host of the “Tokyo International Baritone Saxophone Festival”. Outside of “Tokyo Chutei Iki”, Mizutani often writes lyric and performs on vocals, as he does in “tah!”, a unit with Tsuneo Imahori and Hiroshi Suzuki. As a lyric writer, he collaborates with artists such as Jun Togawa.

友部正人、高橋幸宏などのサポートを経て’92年にシンガー・ソング・ライターとして
デビュー。作曲家としてTVCMやドラマ等に楽曲提供する一方、2000年に純バリトンサックス・アンサンブル「東京中低域」を結成、今や世界中のバリトンサックス・プレイヤーで知らない者はないバンドに育て上げ、2014年からは「東京中低域」をホストバンドに据えた「東京国際バリトンサックス・フェスティバル」を主催している。
東京中低域以外では今堀恒雄氏や鈴木広志氏とのユニット「tah!」のように詞を書き歌を歌うことが多い。戸川純とのコラボレーションなど作詞家としての顔を持つ
