At the age of 12, Imahori acquired a guitar and became invested British trad, then studied music theory with Masahiko Sato and Takashi Kako.

In 1986, he formed his own band "Tipographica".

Inspired by the rhythms that he encountered through 1989 Yosuke Yamashita Africa tour, Imahori established a composition method that incorporates "rhythm corruption / fluctuations" into the groove with the use of intensely subdivided scores.

 

His current band "unbeltipo" has developed a "stretching rhythm" approach that modulates tempo and bar lines  interpreting them in a complex way. This approach is still in the process of cultivation.

 

At the same time, in "Quivarac" with Tadahiko Yokokawa and Akira Sotoyama, aims to maste and apply unanalyzed rhythms.

Since 2019, Imahori has resumed his solo activity will be resumed in order to create a foundation for what he calls the “unheard sound”.

 

Imahori is motivated by his curiosity for the evolution of music, and his attempts to develop new interpretations of rhythm are still ongoing.

 

In other small ensemble such as Duos and Trios, Imahori takes completely different approaches as a guitarists. 

 

 DUO and Band with Keisuke Ohta, Toru Tenda, Kazuto Shimizu, Akihiro Ishiwatari, Mishio Ogawa, etc. 

 

As support, he has perfomed with Yosui Inoue, Yoko Kanno's works (participating in Seatbelts, etc.), Taku Iwasaki's work, Maaya Sakamoto, Mimori Yusa

 

He also works, as a composer, for commercials, animations, movies, etc.

Also, it is a well known fact to animation fans all over the world that the music for late 90s animation  “Trigen” was an unusual hit, with an instrumental opening composition which was rare at that time.

 

Imahori is eager to give his “researcher” side of work more recognition.
